Enonymous Advisor - A
handy free beta "Web companion," Enonymous Advisor resides in your
Windows system tray and gives you details about Web sites' privacy policies.
Before you fill out any form at a site, you can view the Enonymous four-star
rating review of the site's privacy policy, and also if they qualify for the
enonymous, TRUSTe, and/or BBB online privacy seals. Advisor also will
automatically fill out online forms for you with a single click. Note:

- Are you concerned about your privacy when you
are chatting on ICQ or IRC? ChatBUDDY is a freeware encryption tool that
will secure your communications, using Blowfish (a powerful, free encryption
algorithm). ChatBUDDY also offers handy features such as password protection
and session key management.

HushMail - Are
you worried about the privacy of your E-mail? You should be, given the security
woes that plague E-mail these days. A free Web-based E-mail service,
HushMail offers 1024-bit technology encryption for your messages and
attachments. (Note that your recipient must also be a HushMail user for you
to take advantage of the 1024-bit encryption feature). Service is available
in English and German.

ProxyMate - This
is a free new service that lets you use "community" and
personalized services on the Web while also preserving your privacy.
ProxyMate is a proxy-based service so it requires no downloads and is
transparent to your normal Web browsing. It also offers an "E-mail
Filter," that can help you fight spam. Easy to set up.

Eraser - Are you worried about prying
eyes browsing through sensitive content on your hard drive? (Even if you
delete such data, it can be easily recovered by an experienced user).
Eraser, an excellent free program, offers an advanced security tool, which
allows you to completely remove private data from your hard drive by
overwriting it several times with "carefully selected patterns."

allows you to send anonymous messages, with or without a remailer, to any

you worried about your privacy on the Web? Here's a new free, anonymous Web
surfing service that is easy to use. IDzap.com removes sensitive information
such as machine names, IP addresses and cookies so that your Web surfing
session can be conducted anonymously and safely. There are also good FAQs

ZipLip - Do
you need to send a confidential E-mail? If you're worried about snoops
taking a peek at your message, then try this free service. ZipLip uses
advanced SSL encryption techniques that protect your confidentiality. When
you send a E-mail from ZipLip, it is protected by a password that is stored
in an encrypted format. Only when your recipient supplies the correct
password is your message decrypted and delivered to the recipient.

Cryptext - Need
a quick, easy way to encrypt files on your computer? Just install Cryptext
and whenever you right-click on a file, you'll get a pop-up menu that lets
you easily encrypt or decrypt it with one click. This freeware utility
"uses a combination of SHA-1 and RC4 to encrypt files using a 160-bit
key" (which is geek speak for saying that it renders your files
unreadable to snoops).

ScramDisk - Here's
a new, freeware hard drive encryption program that's a must if you have data
on your PC that must be kept secure. ScramDisk creates an
"envelope" on your hard drive that can be "mounted" as a
virtual disk when you enter the correct password. All data written to this
disk is encrypted and can't be acccessed without the password. ScramDisk
supports several encryption algorithms, including Blowfish, IDEA and
Triple-DES. For Windows
98/95. (Since it was developed in Britain, ScramDisk is not subject to U.S.
export law).

Ebuse - Here's
a free anonymous E-mail service that is simple to use and convenient and
lets you send messages, even if you don't have an E-mail address of your
own. No spamming allowed.
Ebuse is now requiring you to register (it's free) before using the service.

JBoot - This handy free utility will
secure your PC's contents against unwanted prying eyes while you're away.
Think of it as a MasterLock for your computer. It's only 52 kilobytes in

BCWipe
- Although most people don't know it, simply
deleting a file from your computer does not permanently erase the file. If
you have sensitive data on your computer that you'd like to permanently get
rid of, then you need this helpful utility from Finland. BCWipe will
securely delete files from your hard disk. BCWipe is free for non-commercial
and non-govermental use.

RPK InvisiMail - This is a free
standards-based E-mail security add-in for POP3/SMTP Internet E-mail
software and Internet gateway servers. With RPK InvisiMail you can easily
and transparently send and receive E-mail messages securely over the
Internet and have "complete trust" in your Internet
communications. RPK InvisiMail acts as a proxy, or system service through
which all E-mail traffic passes, and it automatically encrypts or decrypts
each message. RPK has worldwide strong encryption, so it is not subject to
U.S. government regulation.

Pretty Good Privacy freeware version - A
free encryption software program that is the de-facto global standard for
E-mail and file privacy. Pretty Good Privacy (or PGP) offers full-strength,
128-bit encryption. PGP has constantly been upgraded over the years and now
offers loads of useful features, including secure file wiping; advanced
keyserver searching; and seamless integration with Qualcomm's popular Eudora
E-mail client. There's also an E-mail plugin for Microsoft Outlook/Exchange
and Claris Emailer.
Available for Windows, Macs, DOS and Unix. (Free for noncommercial use
only).
- U.S. law prohibits export
of PGP to non-U.S. residents. However, there is now an
"International" version of PGP, compiled and developed outside
the U.S., which is available for non-U.S. residents to download. It's

lets you surf without leaving a trail of personal information about yourself
across the Web. This service offers unlimited free trial access. Anonymizer
also offer a free
anonymous E-mail service.
Anonymizer is offered in English, French, Italian, Portuguese & Spanish.

Interfree Anonymizer - This service lets
you surf the Web anonymously. It works by loading the document identified by
the URL you have specified. Because the document is loaded by the Interfree
Anonymizer's server, the site that holds the document will not be able to
determine any information about you. You may "test" this service
free of charge.

Whisper 32 - Is
the process of keeping up with all your passwords driving you crazy? Then
check out this useful freeware utility. Whisper 32 stores all your passwords
in one file and offers password protection. Your data files are encrypted
"using a robust public domain private-key encryption algorithm."
Whisper 32 also offers automatic backups and a built-in password generator.

Kill Docs - Are you worried about prying
eyes taking a peek at the contents of your "Documents Menu"? This
freeware utility sits in your Windows system tray (by the clock) and clears
your Documents Menu when double clicked, or at preset timed intervals.

Crypto Kong - This free program will
allow you to easily encrypt your communications. It's simpler and easier to
use than any competing digital signature and encryption product, because
there is no need for certificate management. With Kong, you do not need to
worry about public key certificates and you do not need to create and
publish your public key certificate, or obtain other people's certificates
so that you can communicate with them privately, unlike other digital
signature and encryption programs.

Eudora Lite with PGP - If you need
privacy when sending your E-mail, here's a good free solution: Eudora Light
(an excellent freeware E-mail client) is now bundled with "Pretty Good
Privacy for Personal Privacy," the strongest encryption program
commercially available for individual users. Because of the current U.S.
export restrictions on encryption software, you must verify that you are a
citizen of (and currently residing in) the U.S. or Canada before you can

PGP for Pegasus Mail
- This freeware plugin for the popular free
E-mail program, Pegasus is a must
if you want to ensure privacy for your E-mail. QDPGP offers seamless
integration of PGP with Pegasus and provides a comprehensive help file with
context sensitive support.

Private Idaho - A free Internet privacy
utility for Windows. It simplifies using E-mail with Pretty Good Privacy
(see above listing), anonymous remailers, and nym servers, providing you
with more electronic privacy. Note:

PGPfone - PGPfone (Pretty Good Privacy
Phone) is a software package that turns your desktop or notebook computer
into a secure telephone. It uses speech compression and strong cryptography
protocols to give you the ability to have a real-time secure telephone

The Replay Remailer - A Dutch-based
anonymous remailer. Spamming is discouraged. They also operate an Web-based
remailer with SSL enabled, and for those who don't have an SSL capable
browser, or a browser that doesn't accept self-signed certificates, they
operate a Web-based remailer without SSL enabled.
